Parks and Playgrounds

Escom Chandler Park is located at the corner of 8th Street and Madison Avenue in the vicinity of the Paintsville City Pool.  The park has two structures, with one appropriate for 2 to 5-year olds and the other for 5 to 12-year olds.  The park is open from daylight to dusk and park rules are posted.  The park is owned and maintained by the City of Paintsville.  For additional information, please contact Recreation Center at 606-789-2612 or City Hall at 606-789-2600.  

Oil Spring Park is located at 7846 KY Route 40, in the community of Oil Springs. The park is in the vicinity of the Oil Springs Cultural Arts & Recreation Center (OSCAR), formerly the Oil Springs School.  The park has a playground and a basketball goal, as well as a picnic shelter available for rent.  The park is owned and maintained by the Johnson County Fiscal Court and is open from daylight to dusk.  For additional information or to rent a shelter, call 606-789-2550.

Paul B. Hall Park & Playground is located at the Paintsville Recreation Center at 232 Preston Street.  The large paly structure is located behind the Paintsville Little League Fields.  There is a walking track around the perimeter of the playground.  The park is owned and maintained by the City of Paintsville.  For additional information, call the Recreation Department at 606-789-2612 or City Hall at 606-789-2600. 

Preston Park, located between KY Route 321 and Broadway Street, is a beautiful park owned and maintained by the City of Paintsville.  The Paintsville/Johnson County Trail Town provides upkeep to the flower beds throughout the seasons.  The park has a gazebo and a fountain, along with seating throughout the park.  For additional information, please contact City Hall at 606-789-2600.  

Rucker Park is located just off of KY Route 302 on Silk Stocking Loop in the community of Van Lear.  The park is owned and maintained by the Van Lear Historical Society.  The park has a playground, picnic shelter, walking bridge, basketball court, and a historic railroad caboose.  The park is open from daylight to dusk.

Johnson County Park and Recreational Area, more commonly known as Thealka Park is located at 2244 State Hwy 581, in the community of Thealka. The park features a playground, outdoor basketball court, outdoor volleyball court, walking trail, baseball field, restrooms, and two large picnic shelters with grills available for rent. The park is owned and maintained by the Johnson County Fiscal Court and is open from daylight to dusk.  For additional information or to rent a shelter, call 606-789-2550.  

Johnson County has proposed a soccer complex near the old American Standard Industrial site. Shelters at both Thealka Park and Oil Springs Park can be reserved by printing and completing the form below, then returning it to the Johnson County Judge Executive's office with the rental fee of $50 (check/cash/money order).
