New Vehicle for Johnson County Coroner

Johnson County Fiscal Court applied for and received USDA funds in the amount of $14,035 to assist with the purchase of a customized vehicle to be used by the Johnson County Coroner. Other matching funds include funds from the surplus sale of a vehicle, Area Development Funds, and LGEA (coal severance) funds. Currently, the only vehicle that the coroner has is a 2004 Ford E-150 van that is decreasing in reliability while increasing in maintenance costs. After researching the best choice for a replacement vehicle, it was determined that a four-wheel drive pickup truck modified with a cover added to the truck bed and an access door to create separation from the coroner and the bodies during transit, particularly when a body must be transported to Frankfort for an autopsy. The four-wheel drive capability of the vehicle will allow the coroner to easily access hollows and off-road scenes. The project is expected to be completed by Fall of 2020.
